| Well, I picked up the CNC-machined impeller wheels today from the shop. They came out pretty good:
Fits in there like a glove:
I changed up on the design of the backside of the impeller wheel, with consideration to how the wheel will be mounted to the sealing collar/shaft. The original design called for 4 small screws holding the shaft to the wheel, but that posed some design issues with using a shaft diameter of significant diameter. Since the impeller wheel is driven clockwise (from a rear perspective), the drive force will result in a right-hand thread being self-tightening. The back of the impeller wheel was machined with a threaded centerbore that the shaft will screw into - using a little bit of loctite to hold the assembly from backing off (preventive). I placed an order yesterday for some pretty nice shaft seals; 3/8" I.D. and 11/16" O.D., Teflon coated, carbon-fiber reinforced. I will be doubling up on the shaft seals for additional leakage protection, although one of them should be plenty fine for the job. Just need to load some stock into the lathe and cut the final piece, index the electric motor (to ensure proper shaft centering into the seals) and bolt everything together.
The pump should be done by this weekend. I also received a new braided-SS teflon line for the driver's side turbo oil feed/filter setup - the previous line was too short to allow proper clearance of the steering shaft. Good man Greg D. has hooked me up with a pair of 4-bolt turbine flanges and I've ordered the rest of the piping to finish the downpipe construction. Still have a TON of things to do before she is drivable, but some progress is always good. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. BTW: The impeller wheels' finish may appear rough to some of you, but what you are seeing are the small milling marks that are left by the cutting bits. Running your hand over these parts does not give any indiation that it is rough - everything is very smooth. The center cone is also perfectly round although the way the light reflects makes it look like it has a bunch of flat sides to it.
